Construction Volunteers
| We need many volunteers to help us build new homes, and to paint and renovate existing ones. We welcome people with expertise as well as those who wish to learn. No experience is necessary. Volunteer and we'll teach you what you need to know. Think about organizing a work group from your college or school, from your church, mosque, or temple, or from your workplace or civic organization. Spend a day with friends building a dream home for someone else or come on your own and meet our wonderful volunteers. |

Committee and Board volunteers
|
| None of the construction of the new homes could happen unless we had an active corps of committee volunteers and board members: the people who help us raise money and publicize our programs and coordinate our volunteers. We are looking for talented and dedicated volunteers who can help us get things done. |

RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
We are looking for people who can identify and approach potential donors (individual, church, corporate) for either cash or in-kind gifts of material, labor, property, or support. This committee also needs people who can develop fundraising material and help with grant writing. You will be surprised to find how eager people are to give when they understand the principles of Habitat for Humanity!
This Committee is for people interested in identifying potential sites for construction. We work with local government officials on acquiring land and lots for building, water and sewer hookups, and coordinating with the construction committee to be sure lots are buildable for a house that is suitable for a partner family. Those who like to dabble in real estate would be natural members.
FAMILY SELECTION COMMITTEE
This committee is made up of people willing to interview and work with families who may apply to be a partner family with Habitat. These people will check to make certain the applicant meets the criteria established by Oneida County Habitat/HFHI for homeownership. Because we operate as a bank, we must follow certain laws, make sure we cover all the bases, and not discriminate in any way.
BUILDING/CONSTRUCTION COMMITTEE
Members include people with an interest in and some knowledge of home construction. This can include surveyors, architects, people who know building codes, carpenters, concrete workers, plumbers, electricians, and utility and building supply people. There is a lot to know about building houses. If you have any knowledge at all, or if you would like some on the job training, please join us!
PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE
This committee is responsible for all aspects of public relations, including overseeing social networking sites, the website, and relations with the press; sending email blasts; designing brochures, emails, signs, and t-shirts; photography; and generally raising OCHFH's profile in the community. We assist other committees by publicizing their efforts. We need people with graphics, public relations, writing, photography, and website management skills.
We are looking for volunteers with good people skills to work with partner families both before and after construction to be certain that they understand the requirements of a Habitat partner family. This committee monitors the family's progress in meeting these requirements and helps them in the transition to true homeownership. These sponsor/advocate/friends also help educate the families on budgeting and home maintenance.
FAITH-BASED RELATIONS COMMITTEE
This committee aims to involve an increasing number of churches in the ministry of Habitat and to help maintain Habitat's focus on witnessing to the gospel of Jesus Christ. It requires a commitment to identify Habitat as a Christian ministry and to exhibit a powerful Christian presence through prayer and daily interactions with all people, to communicate to churches about how a partnership with Habitat can benefit the community of faith, and to offer a unique opportunity for people in the pews to experience their faith in new and exciting ways.
RECRUITMENT COMMITTEE and NOMINATING COMMITTEE
This committee coordinates the search for board and committee candidates, by both identifying and cultivating prospects. Sources for future board and committee members include local civic groups, churches, local media, professional associations, current board members, staff, volunteers and other Habitat partners. This committee conducts interviews, invitations, presentation of candidates, and the election process.
The Nominating Committee will consider candidates submitted by the Recruitment Committee, and will then submit a written recommendation to the Board of Directors for consideration.
VOLUNTEER RELATIONS COMMITTEE
This committee helps to supervise construction activity on a Habitat worksite. Members assign volunteers to specific tasks and provide them with tools and materials to complete the task. They work to involve everyone and move them on to other tasks as they are completed. Finally, they supervise the clean-up of the site, put away tools and materials, lock doors, shut off lights and water, turn down heat, and notify the project manager of the day's events. This committee is also responsible for recruiting and organizing volunteers for specific work dates.
This committee aims to involve youth under 18 in Habitat for Humanity projects, and provide safe, legal and age-appropriate activities for young people. We hope to involve our local youth in an effort to advocate for an end to poverty housing by participating in Act! Speak! Build!, and to provide leadership opportunities through our Youth United committee. We also hope to expand beyond our customary pool of volunteers to approach groups and organizations with whom we have yet to partner. We intend to reach out to as many different age ranges, socioeconomic levels, levels of ability, race, ethnic and religious groups as possible.
A BRUSH WITH KINDNESS COMMITTEE
ABWK is a new program that is intended to perform mostly small, exterior upgrades to owner occupied homes. These upgrades would include projects such as landscaping and painting.
The Green Build committee is responsible for defining those actions the Affiliate can take to be more environmentally responsible. It is also the focus for identifying potential grant opportunities related to energy efficient products.
